If you are watching this years FIFA World Cup 2010, probably you should have been introduced to K'Naan's song "Waving Flag". This song is also the Anthem for the World Cup 2010.
But only few knows the History behind him and his songs. I won't be surprised if someone compares him as a present day Bob Marley. The similarities between both are their style of fusion of music with the political and social messages. They both were and are political conscious individuals, and it's no surprise that it has been reflected in their songs. Both tend to make People political conscious of their surroundings.
Below is the song "Waving Flag" the original version, the World Cup version is altered and remixed to suit the Football fan. Let me remind you K'Naan is a Somali Refugee settled in Canada, his songs generally depicts the Social and Political turmoil he experienced during Somalian civil war and his continuous surviving struggle after that.
I must say, I LOVE his songs, the same reason why I love Bob Marley's songs. To my surprise K'Naan recorded this song (along with this album) at Bob Marley's home in Kingston, Jamaica. It's very hard to get main stream singers singing political conscious songs and I would like to thank World Cup (Coke/FIFA/South Africa) for bringing him to the front stage in our struggle for Peaceful and Happy WORLD.
If you are interested to know more about him, please listen to his Interview with Amy Goodman of DemocracyNow recorded on 2009.
